Meet the visionaries behind ADI.
Melissa M. Young is a distinguished artistic leader and educator whose three-decade career blends visionary creativity, strategic leadership, and a deep commitment to advancing the performing arts. A Honduran American from Santa Ana, California, Melissa trained at The Ailey School and strengthened her executive acumen through Michigan State University’s Eli Broad College of Business, earning graduate-level certificates in Leadership, Management, and Analytical Skills. She is also an inaugural cohort member of The Ailey Horton Teacher Certification Program, further advancing her expertise in the Horton Technique.
Melissa spent 30 transformative years with Dallas Black Dance Theatre, rising from company dancer to Artistic Director. Under her leadership, she pioneered a virtual programming model that connected audiences across 40+ states and 35+ countries. Her artistic influence has appeared on renowned stages including The Kennedy Center, Lincoln Center Out-of-Doors, City Center, The Joyce Theater, and at two Cultural Olympiads.
Sam Santiago, CDE®️ is a seasoned corporate executive and international entrepreneur with 35 years of experience across travel, logistics, and entertainment. Native to Puerto Rico, he developed an early, deep appreciation for a broad spectrum of creative disciplines.
As former leader of the American Airlines Foundation, Sam championed countless cultural institutions. Appointed by Mayor Eric Johnson as Chair of the City of Dallas Arts and Culture Advisory Commission, Sam now leads ADI and the Asociación Internacional de Hoteles Boutique from Mexico.
He has served on numerous board and committees, including VolunteerNOW (formerly the North Texas Volunteer Center) and the Dallas Cultural Plan. A global citizen, Sam brings by way of his travel to 60+ countries and territories and lived experiences in several continents a profound commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusive artistic excellence.
